On May 27th 2026 we opened the doors to the first group exhibition curated by DADDY Magazine – THE LAND REMEMBERS. Examining the ongoing realities of waste colonialism, this exhibition brings together artists working across video, photography, installation and performance who trace how waste moves, settles and persists. After having worked on bringing everything together since the beginning of the year, it was truly special to finally see the artworks within the beautiful space of GlogauAir in the heart of Kreuzberg, Berlin. With the evening sun shining through the windows and enveloping the pieces in its warm light, the first guests started trickling in. Seeing them browse through our exhibition booklet and engage with the artwork truly made us realise that what we had been discussing via zoom calls and excel sheets had made it out of the digital realm and into people's minds and hearts.
We started off the night with a short introduction by DADDY founder Kemi Fatoba, followed by a keynote speech titled "Who Cares About Clean Clothes?" by Beatrace Oola which was held by DADDY member Janice Faith, due to the predictable unpredictability of the German train system. Beatrace Oola is the founder of Fashion Africa Now. With over a decade of experience as a consultant, lecturer, speaker, and interdisciplinary curator, her work bridges fashion, heritage, remembrance, social justice and identity. After the speech we continued with Mayila Khodadin's beautiful performance of her piece "With/In" which explores overconsumption and waste disposal, as well as its effects on land and people. Mayila Khodadin is a French-Mauritian contemporary dancer, performer and choreographer based in Berlin.
We want to thank our artists Jere Ikongio, Marc Khafre, Mayila Khodadin, Rafael Kouto, Peter D. Abayomi & Ruby Okoro (Circular Heroes), Chie Marquart-Tabel, Studio Neida, Jamal Nxedlana and Mona Okulla Obua without whom this exhibition wouldn't have been possible. We'd also like to express our gratitude for our advisory board Yvette Mutumba, Celina Basra, Constantin Hartenstein, Beatrace Oola, Akinbode Akinbiyi, Eric Otieno and Mahret Kupka. Thank you to Lemonaid and Charitea for supporting the opening and to Fonds Soziokultur for the continuous support with our projects.
